Products of the Past, Innovations for the Future

In the last twenty years or so, hundreds of product has been invented with the intention of not only earning a large profit, but changing the way of life.  Take for example the launching of the World Wide Web (1990), Apple’s iPod (2001) and later the iPhone (2007, and the first hybrid vehicle (Toyota Insight – 1999).
Yes, the above examples have been adapted by consumers very quickly, but it’s the products that are not quite as well known but still make a difference.

Where Do Inventions Start?

Inventions start with necessity, and there are plenty of problems to solve in this world. Creativity and new ideas are the start of great new product.  Take Google for example, creating Gmail for research and more storage than its opposition or Google Earth for real-time 3D views.  Well, the same thing is happening here at Handi-Ramp.

The excitement of invention is oftentimes not obvious until you get in a room with other inventors. This creativity buzz was evident at the 2013 National Hardware show that Handi-Ramp recently attended having a space to promote the many novel products.  One of those products is the non slip Handi-Treads, an aluminum non slip tread product for stairs, decks, inclines and just about any walking surface.

Oftentimes people who experience slip and fall issues fall towards the cheaper product – in this case grit tape or grip paint.  The problem with these two products is they wear out and fail very quickly whereas the aluminum tread will keep its traction properties no matter the location.

It is always interesting to observe someone trying out a product for the first time.  Our non slip tread demo display allowed interested buyers to step on the treads with their feet and touch the raised button surface.  In their heads they began to think, I know I can use this. This solves an important problem, slip, trip and falls. It has commercial and residential uses.

Another Innovative Product – Fracking Ramp

Treads are just the start at Handi-Ramp.  Another new product is the fracking ramp.  What was the unmet need of our customer? What was the problem we were looking to solve?

Hses, cables and cords can become squeezed when run over with a vehicle or stepped on by a person.  We took this idea and applied it to the oil and natural gas extraction industry where there are multiple hoses and cables running throughout the worksite.  (Fracking is the extraction of natural gas from deep within the earth).  The hoses are used to extract the slurry dug up by the process.

To protect these hoses from breakage Handi-Ramp invented the fracking ramp to protect the hoses when trucks drive over them.  This not only saves the worksite valuable time, but saves money against digging a trench to bury the lines.
