We’ve all heard a story at one point or another about a retired married couple taking a cross country trip in their RV because, hey, it was on their bucket list.
What’s often not disclosed, and unique about this story, is that the couple wanted to take along the husband’s aging mother.
The couple decided early on in their marriage to start a fund specifically for this trip and vowed never to touch the account until it was time to start planning the adventure. When they felt the time was right, the couple contacted a company who builds custom RV’s and specifically requested there be no more than 2 steps leading up to the RV’s main cabin, as they had planned for the husband’s mother to ride along on the trip.
A year later and after much careful planning, the RV was delivered to the couple just a few short weeks ahead of their scheduled trip. Sadly, however, the husband’s mother suffered a stroke just a few days later. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with hemiparesis. This left her with the inability to move one side of her body. After a lengthy stay at the hospital, she was discharged from the hospital into the loving care of the couple.
Not to be deterred from their yearlong trip, the couple wanted to accommodate their husband’s mother; though, more modifications were needed for the RV. Time was of the essence. Thankfully, much of the RV’s design accommodated wheelchair access, therefore, not prohibiting her from enjoying all the amenities of the RV.
The only problem was the entrance. Seeking a solution, the couple decided to invest in a portable ramp. After much searching online, they found a reliable company in the Chicagoland area called Handi-Ramp who specializes in both portable ramps and custom ramps.
After numerous conversations, the couple decided on a portable ramp that would easily reach the floor of the bus, and could effortlessly be stored in an undercarriage compartment, saving valuable space.
To much delight, the couple went on their year long journey with the husband’s mother and had a blast. The portable ramp fit perfectly, installed seamlessly, and functioned according to specifications. The couple was so pleased with their purchase that they contacted us to leave a glowing review.
