With warmer than average temperatures slated to cover much of the contiguous United States Thursday, its hard to think about nothing else except enjoying the weather. This is the time of year landscapers, roofers, and other contractors wait for after a harsh winter.
But before any appointments are scheduled and work begins, equipment must be inspected to ensure proper working condition and that it’s easily accessible to workers.
Just last month Handi-Ramp designed and built 10 Sprinter van ramps for a major lawn care company in the Midwest. For many years the company had previously used box trucks for many years and found the method to be too costly and time consuming for their employees to remove and replace numerous equipment.
In late 2013, a representative from the lawn care company contacted Handi-Ramp for a solution to reduce the amount of time needed to unload and load said lawn care equipment. In turn, the hopes were to additionally reduce the amount of energy needed to unfold and re-fold a ramp mounted to the rear of their Sprinter by at least 25%.
Within just three weeks from the initial phone call, Handi-Ramp had designed, tested, and mounted a ramp system that would help alleviate the pain.
Before installing the ramp system in the remaining 9 Sprinter vans, Handi-Ramp performed a time study regarding the amount of time it took to remove or unfold the ramp and then re-fold the ramp into its upright position.
The results were staggering.
The new system, created by Handi-Ramp, would save an estimated 2 minutes per lawn application. Even more, the ramp’s design helped to reduce lifting capacity by a remarkable 75% of its original load!
Both Handi-Ramp and the lawn care company were thoroughly pleased with the results and are looking into expanding into further business.
