Installing Your Sliding Door Threshold Ramp

Installing your HandiRamp Sliding Door Threshold Ramp Kit takes only a few easy steps! Once assembled, the three pieces of your sliding door threshold ramp will function together to create a safe passage over the sliding door tracks while also allowing the door to fully close while the ramp is still in place.

Your Threshold Ramp will be Delivered to Your Home

Your sliding door threshold ramp will arrive at your home in three parts: the outdoor section, the indoor section, and the crossover bridge.

Remove Your Ramp from the Packing Material

Unbox your Sliding Door Threshold Ramp components, remove the packing material from your work area, grab your tools and let’s get started!

Arrange the Pieces

First, lay out the pieces so you can visualize how the indoor, outdoor, and crossover components will function together.

Note: if your outdoor ramp is 1″ in height, the crossover bridge will arrive already welded to the outdoor ramp, and you will not have to perform the next step.

Attach the Cross-over Bridge to the Outside Ramp

Don’t forget you’ll need a power drill or Phillips head screwdriver and a 1/2″ socket wrench or an adjustable wrench to attach the crossover bridge to the outdoor ramp section.

The outdoor ramp section has predrilled oval-shaped holes that align with predrilled circle-shaped holes on the crossover bridge. This allows the crossover bridge to slide slightly to either side of the outdoor ramp for a custom fit in your threshold.

First, flip the outdoor ramp section and crossover bridge over so that the raised-button surface is flat on the floor. Place a washer on each of the bolts and place the bolts outward through the pre-drilled holes on the hinged section of the crossover bridge. Then, add another washer to the other side of the placed bolts. Align the pre-drilled holes on the outdoor ramp section and place the ramp through the bolts. Add another washer followed by the nut to each bolt. Use a wrench to hold the nuts in place while you tighten the bolts using your power drill.

Note: do not overtighten the bolts to the extent that the crossover bridge cannot move freely. It should be able to move slightly up and down when opened and closed.

Find the Proper Location for the Ramp Pieces

The crossover bridge moves down on its hinge to create a platform from the outdoor ramp to the indoor ramp. The crossover bridge will rest on the lip of the indoor ramp (shown in photo) when in use.

Place Inside and Outside Pieces Parallel

To use, align the indoor ramp flush against the indoor threshold. Do the same with the outdoor ramp with the outdoor threshold. The edges of the indoor and outdoor threshold ramps should be parallel to each other.

Place the Threshold Ramp Pieces Together

The crossover bridge moves down on its hinge to create a platform from the outdoor ramp to the indoor ramp. The crossover bridge will rest on the lip of the indoor ramp when in use. For your safety, we recommend securing both the outdoor and indoor ramps to the floor using screws through the predrilled holes on the ramp (see arrows on the right).

Installation Complete!

When not in use, the crossover bridge can be flipped up and out of the way in order for the sliding door to close.

Installing the HandiRamp sliding door threshold ramp takes only a few easy steps! The ramp kit will arrive in three pieces. To install, first, attach the crossover bridge to the outdoor ramp section using the included hardware. The indoor and outdoor ramp sections can then be lined up flush against the threshold. The crossover bridge will rest on the lip of the indoor section when in use, and can be flipped up and out of the way so the door can fully close.
