Q: Can your portable single-fold ramps be used on porches?

Q: Lethbridge School District No. 51 would like to purchase a multifold suitcase ramp, 8ft x 30″ aluminum construction, anti-skid surface, 600# cap, usage for 4 to 5 steps, vans and trucks. Could you please advise if you have one or more Canadian distributors for your product that we could contact for pricing. Preferably in BC or Alberta. We are situated in Lethbridge, 130 miles south of Calgary Alberta.

A: Unfortunately we do not have any Canadian distributors for our aluminum portable ramps. We can ship them from our warehouse in the U.S. via UPS Ground.
Q: I would like to purchase a 5ft single fold portable aluminium ramp for use in the UK. When selecting on-line I am only given the choice to enter Canada or USA in the address section – please could you let me know if you sell ouside these locations and how I can complete my on-line order.

A: We sell and ship all of our ramps worldwide direct. Please contact a ramp expert for a freight quote at (800) 876-7267 or info@handiramp.com.
Q: Do your portable ramps have a side rail to prevent wheelchairs from falling off?

A: Yes, all of our portable ramps come with a lip approximately 1″ in height to prevent a wheelchair, scooter, and other mobility devices from slipping off.
Q: What about a lip? My daughter is afraid her front wheelchair wheel will get stuck in the crack where the ramp meets the landing.

A: All of our portable ramps come standard with a front and back lip making it a seamless transition from the ground to top landing and vice versa. Keep in mind, different ramps have different lip sizes.

Wheelchair Lifts

Q: I need a quote on a vertical lift from a concrete sidewalk up 48″ to a wood deck. This is an outdoor application so the unit needs to be weather proof.

A: HPL-50
Q: I am interested in your porch lifts. I have a landing that is in a garage and it is about 48″ from the floor. Could you send back some pricing and options that are available on these lifts?

A: HPL-50 Porch Lift
Q: I belong to a Rotary Club in Dawson Creek BC Canada and want to obtain some pricing information about your 50″ and 72″ vertical wheelchair elevators. Our club has found a need in our community to purchase one of these units and lend it out to individuals who may need it on a short term basis. There are requests for wheelchair ramps which can be quite costly and end up being permanently fixed to the house it is installed in. We feel that this may be a solution to that need but something that could be reused when the need of that dwelling diminishes.

What has brought this on is a phone call I received from an acquaintance regarding an elderly couple of which the husband is in the last stages of emphysema and his wife has had cancer and hernia operations in the past year. They get oxygen delivered to their residence in containers weighing 110 pounds. The delivery man will not lift these containers up the five or six stairs to get it into the house. The husband cannot lift it and his wife has already torn open her surgical areas from lifting so she was worrying about how to get the bottles into the house. I looked at the possibility of building a ramp (at no cost to them) at their place but the height of rise would require a 60 foot ramp taking up too much room and at quite a cost. That’s when the idea of purchasing a lift and lending it out to people in need came about.

A: HPL-50 & HPL-72 Wheelchair Lifts
Q: My parents are interested in getting a wheel chair lift installed in their home that will allow them to get from the house to the driveway while sitting in the chair. It’s about a 6 foot difference from the kitchen pourch to the driveway. Would also like to know if you have any information regarding installation assistance?

A: HPL-72
Q: Please mail me info on your “Portable Vertical Stage Lift Elevator”. We wish to install something like this to provide access to our church’s choir loft for wheelchair bound members of our choir. It would need only an approx. 21″ lift, with entry on one side and exit on the opposite side of the lift.

A: Portable Stage Lift

Van Ramps

Q: I am looking for an easy-to-install-ramp for a 2004 Honda Odyssey. My daughter is small and light enough to transfer her into the vehicle. Her 180lb power chair is a different story. I am interested in your quick install ramp since it looks like it would meet our needs. My questions are, how much room does it take up, can it be installed inside the sill, and how much does it cost, also do I need professional installation?

A: Please call our van ramp experts at (800) 876-7267 – it will be easier to answer your questions over the phone.
Q: Looking for a portable ramp to assist people with disabilities into our van (side door).

A: We manufacture a side door van ramp that should fit your vehicle. Please call our van ramp experts at (800) 876-7267 to ensure the ramp will be compatible with your car.
Q: I need a ramp that can be easily removed from the van and eventually replaced for my son Do they weigh a lot? What sort of door frame spacing would I need?

A: The best thing to do is call our van ramp experts at (800) 876-7267. It’ll be easier to work thru the details over the phone rather than communicate via e-mail.

Ramp Systems

Q: I’m looking to replace an old rotting wood ramp for my son who is in a power chair paralyzed from the waist down. What types of ramps do you offer that include a platform?

A: Try a modular ramp system available in three styles Aluminum Wheelchair Ramp, ADA Concrete Ramp, or Steel Wheelchair Ramp.
Q: Can you manufacture a concrete deck ramp for a public school renovation project in New York City?

A: We can custom design a solution to suit your needs, including a concrete deck ramp.

Handrails

Q: We have a “U” shaped concrete ramp without hand rails. We would like to install hand rails with a total length of 74 feet. Can the handrails be attached to the concrete or do you have railings that can be planted into the ground along the sides of the ramp?

A: Handrails come in a variety of styles including single bar, double bar and vertical picket handrails. Please call our ramp experts at (800) 876-7267 to discuss your needs.
Q: Which of your portable ramps can be used with handrails?

A: Basically anything that is manufactured on-site can be fitted for handrails. Our aluminum portable ramp is the only ramp we sell that can be fitted for handrails.

Wheelchair Tie Downs

Q: I was wondering about how to lock down the wheelchair once you get it inside the vehicle. Is that something that would need to be taken to a mechanic or a specialty store to do?

A: No need for a mechanic – simply purchase wheelchair tie downs and you will be set.

Non Slip Tread Strips

Q: Is it possible to buy the non-slip material to put on a ramp which my husband has made, please?

A: Yes. You can order non skid treads online and even perform a cost comparison vs. alternatives.
Q: Can the skid treads be applied to a wooden ramp that is outside and gets snow and ice on it? Can you shovel snow off them without compromising the adhesion?

A: Our non slip tread material can be applied to any surface and is specifically designed for use with snow and ice. Shoveling the surface will not damage the product or compromise the adhesion because non slip treads are applied with screws or anchors.
